What is spinal Arthopathy?
« on: April 26, 2023, 11:57:35 AM »
Spinal arthropathy is a condition that affects the joints of the spine, including the facet joints and the sacroiliac joints. It is a type of osteoarthritis that occurs when the cartilage that cushions the joints wears down, causing pain, stiffness, and inflammation.

The condition can affect people of all ages but is more common in older adults. Risk factors for spinal arthropathy include a family history of the condition, previous injury to the spine, and being overweight.

Symptoms of spinal arthropathy may include:

  • Back pain that worsens with movement or activity
  • Stiffness and limited range of motion in the spine
  • Muscle weakness or spasms
  • Numbness or tingling in the arms or legs

Diagnosis of spinal arthropathy typically involves a physical exam, medical history, and imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRI scans. Treatment may include medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or pain relievers, physical therapy, or corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation and pain. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to remove or fuse the affected joints.

It is important to seek medical attention if you are experiencing symptoms of spinal arthropathy, as early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent the condition from worsening and improve your quality of life.
