What is Swelling?
« on: April 27, 2023, 03:36:49 PM »

Swelling, also known as edema, refers to an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the body. Swelling can occur anywhere in the body and can be caused by a variety of factors, including injury, inflammation, infection, or medical conditions such as heart failure or kidney disease.

The most common symptom of swelling is the visible enlargement of the affected area, but other symptoms may also be present, such as redness, warmth, pain, and stiffness. Depending on the cause and location of the swelling, it can also interfere with normal bodily functions, such as walking, gripping objects, or breathing.

Treatment for swelling depends on the underlying cause and may include first aid measures such as rest, elevation, compression, and ice packs, as well as medications to relieve pain and inflammation. In some cases, medical intervention may be necessary, such as draining excess fluid from the affected area or treating an underlying medical condition.
