Don't make that mistake while eating litchi

Exclusive Desk: It is really difficult to find someone who does not love to eat litchi. Litchi is the favorite fruit of almost everyone, young and old. But lately there has been a lot of hype about litchi. Sometimes it is heard that children die after eating litchi.

Some recent studies have shown that consumption of lychee can lead to inflammation in the brain. Lychee toxicity or acute hypoglycemic toxic encephalopathy can be a cause of this complex problem called acute encephalitis syndrome. But that does not mean that children will die of this serious disease by eating litchi. Instead of rumours, confusion and misconceptions, it is important to know scientific explanations and solutions.

Litchi does contain some toxins, such as hypoglycan A, MCPG, etc. They prevent our liver from producing glucose and breaking down fat. If children go to sleep without eating at night or after eating for a long time on an empty stomach, suddenly eating a lot of litchi can cause problems. Children who are very mild—thin and malnourished and between the ages of 2 and 10—are particularly at risk. Due to the effect of these chemicals, there is a sudden lack of glucose in the baby's body. These toxins travel to the brain. Metabolic acidosis occurs. As a result, headache, vomiting, sweating, convulsions, unconsciousness can occur. Half-ripe and unripe litchi are more prone to this condition.
